When Marco Polo made his incredible journey to China and the court of Kublai Khan over 700 years ago, one of the discoveries that he made was eyeglasses. The Chinese had already been using these miraculous vision aids for at least 300 years when Marco first saw them. Bifocals were invented by Benjamin Franklin in the late 1700s. He took his distance spectacles and his reading spectacles and cut the lenses in half, reassembling them into the first bifocals.
