For many athletes training for many different events, socks are socks. They may choose socks with wicking properties or socks that provide additional support for the foot – especially runners – but generally unless there is a foot issue there isn’t much consideration. On the other hand, when you are in CrossFit everything matters, which is why you need to reconsider your WOD socks.
Even though CrossFit isn’t about appearance, there are some really unique WOD socks out there with messages that allow you to get your message across without having to say a thing. Unlike other sports and training sessions where participants are trying to minimize the socks, when you’re in the box training you will usually see everyone wearing knee length socks.
Do You Need Compression Socks?
WOD socks that reach to the knee can be compression socks or not, but the additional bit of protection to the shin for various parts of your WOD can really help to protect your legs and take the sting out of hits to the shins.
Compression WOD socks offer some additional benefits to traditional knee high workout socks. Since they offer compression, they help to support blood flow during and between your workout exercises that can assist in shorter recovery time as more oxygen is available to the cells.
Compression also supports the muscles and help to increase muscle stability. Many men and women wear both WOD socks as well as calf compression sleeves for this very reason.
Moisture Wicking
The benefit of moisture wicking fabrics is that it helps you to stay cool and not have that slippery feeling of your foot moving in your shoe. Even with well-fitted shoes and socks this is can still be a problem if the fabric isn’t moving the moisture away from the bottom of your feet.
Look for WOD socks available at Boxfreak that have a thick cuff at the top to keep the socks securely in place during your entire workout. The top brands will stay in place through any type of jumps, squats or movements that will help you avoid the annoyance of socks that are constantly sliding or rolling down your legs.
