Women may experience thinning eyelashes on the upper and lower lids as they age. A new product, Latisse, is available to help address the issues of thinning upper lashes although it is not specifically for use with the lower lid eyelashes. Keep in mind, when blinking, the contact between your upper and lower lashes will automatically provide some of the medication to the lower lashes.
Latisse is available by prescription only and is approved by the FDA for use in growing “inadequate or not enough eyelashes.” Through use over a period of time, typically 16 weeks, existing lashes will become longer, darker in color and fuller, giving a more natural frame to the eyes.
How to Use
Using Latisse is very easy and requires one application a day, typically recommended as part of your nighttime skin care regime. Start by washing the face and paying special attention to the eyelids and lashes. Remove all make-up completely and also make sure to remove contacts prior to application.
A very small amount of Latisse is then applied to the upper eyelashes at the eyelid. Do not use on the lower lashes and only use the provided applicator. Never apply the solution using your finger or any other type of cotton swab or make-up applicator.
Special Care
It is important to keep the Latisse free from any possible contamination and bacteria. Do not touch the bottle tip or the supplied applicators with your fingers or any other products or items to avoid cross-contamination. Do not wipe or clean the surface of the tip of the bottle with any type of eye care or contact solutions.
It is important never to reuse the applicators for Latisse and to dispose of them after each use. You should also be careful not to let the used applicators touch other areas of your face or skin as it can cause irregular hair growth.
Side Effects
It is important to talk to your doctor about any eye conditions you may have before using Latisse. Some medications, such as those for glaucoma, will also need to be carefully monitored when using Latisse as it can cause changes in eye pressure.
If the product accidently gets into the eye during application, patients may notice itching, redness and dry eye. In a small number of cases the pigmentation of the eye has changed color which is permanent. Discoloration at the site of application on the upper lids will fade if the use of Latisse is discontinued.
The use of Latisse is very safe and effective in growing thicker, longer and fuller eyelashes in most patients. To learn more or to schedule an appointment at Chicago Cosmetic Institute see us at website. You can also find us on Facebook.
