If the system is too big, your house may become too cold and clammy feeling.

An HVAC company will look at several factors when determining what size unit to install. While square footage of the home is an obvious consideration, the age of the home, the type of insulation in the home and the area, shaded or out in the open, all need to be considered.
Routine Maintenance
Like everything else, air conditioning systems need routine maintenance to perform at optimum levels. Having a clean air conditioning system will ensure that you’ll keep cool no matter how hot it gets outside. Change the filter before the start of the cooling season. Then, as a rule, change the filter again about every other month. If you have pets or suffer from allergies, you may want to replace it every month. The evaporator coil should be cleaned before the start of each cooling season as well. Just use a stiff bristled brush on the underside of it and wipe out the tray below it. Finally, the condenser unit itself should be cleaned by a professional. This unit, located outside your home, can become clogged with leaves, grass clipping and other outside debris.
